Windows 10 End of Life Fear: Part IV (11/25/2025)
I want to beat this topic into the ground as I love a good Y2K story like the end of Windows 10 and the mad rush to replace it.
If you have read the first 3 parts of this story, then you will know I was 6 for 6 when applying the Extended Security Updates from Microsoft to my devices without paying a cent or using any points which has been heavily produced in their documentation.
The end date was October 14th, 2025, but today (11/25/25), I am 8 for 8 by adding 2 more machines past the end date to enroll in the program.
The last machine is a 2016 Surface with minimal specs which I fired up and took most of the afternoon to update.
I ran into an issue with the WiFi adaptor continuously crashing and removing me from the interwebs but was able to fix that issue.
After an update, the dreaded warning claimed I was past the enrollment date and no longer receiving security updates. I thought, well, this is the end of the road for the device as perhaps they finally ended the enrollment process.
I don't use this Surface much these days as the CPU is basic with 4 GB of RAM and only 128 GB hard drive, so this machine is not a beast but a basic machine for email and web browsing.
I was about to shut the device down when I did a final check for updates and it happened. The Enroll Now update rolled onto my screen. I followed the steps and was successful in adding the device to the program. I doubt I will use this much in the future, but it was fun to see if I could get it enrolled.
I am out of Windows 10 machines and will be on the lookout for more to see when the ESU ends adding devices. My bet is that it won't end before the 1 year of updates comes to a close.
