Windows 10 End of Life Fear (08/23/2025)

I am seeing the increase of posts on social media where Windows 11 will create a mass pile up of old Windows 10 workstations due to hardware incompatibility. There are posts where people are mentioning using this hardware for Linux and other posts where MSP's can increase their revenues by providing the upgrades.

Yes, Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025, but how about we pump the brakes and look at a cheaper option if you need time to migrate to Windows 11?

You have 3 more years if you use Microsoft Extended Security Update (ESU) program. It will cost $61 per year for each Windows 10 device. You can also use your Microsoft Rewards points too. The points are set at 1000 for each device.

I have 6 devices and am currently at 5500 reward points, so I am almost there. Each morning, I log into Microsoft rewards and participate in some of the ways to gain points. It takes minutes and will soon cover my 6 devices for the next year while I upgrade to Windows 11.

I could have paid $366 for the ESU but I'd rather just cash in my points and save the cash for the new hardware.

You can keep Windows 10 for now as Microsoft knows some people will not upgrade as we know there are companies still using Windows 3.1 (Southwest Airlines). I know Windows 98, XP and 7 are still out there in production and Windows 10 will join them in a few years.

How long will you keep Windows 10 running?

The ESU program to enroll should be available now but will be a staggered release, so keep checking Windows Update for this option. You also need KB5063709 (Win 10 22H2) installed.
